Abstract
In Croatia, the number of male childcare workers in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care is still low. There are many reasons that affect the entry of men in this sector. Aim of this work is to find out what motivates men for choosing this career field, which stereotypes and prejudices are they facing, how those stereotypes and prejudices affect their professional identity, what is their upbringing style and what kind of influence they have on children. This qualitative research was performed in May and it included 5 employees of kindergartens in Zagreb. Interview analysis revealed different types of motivation for entering this career field (job safety, games and activities...). They were talking about their experiences during college and how did they find their jobs. Those experiences were positive. They revealed that they face stereotypes and prejudices. Each of them also thinks he has his own upbringing style which is affected by his personality. They believe they contribute with their many qualities.
