Abstract

In this thesis we examined the effect that audiovisual resources which are being used during class (powerpoint) had on children in the seventh grade on their degree of acquired classroom material. The experiment included 47 children from Elementary School Frane Galović and was executed during biology class. The goal was to get an insite in which way the children achieve a higher degree of acquired classroom material; when audiovisual resources are used, or when the classical method of teaching is used. Furthermore, another goal was to find out how much audiovisual resources effect different sub-groups of children: the more successful and the less successful. The experiment was conducted with the help of two tests which were based on the classroom materials that was being used that day during class. 4 experimental classes of biology were conducted on two grade seven classes during which the method of teaching was rotated. Using the statistical analysis , full statistically significant differences and similarities were obtained within the variables from the results. The results showed that there is no statistical coherence between the method of teaching and degree of acquired classroom material. The children’s results on the tests showed that regardless of the method of teaching they acquired almost the same degree of classroom material. Furthermore, the results showed that different teaching methods did not affect various sub-groups of children differently. More successful children and less successful children obtained almost the same results no matter what teaching method was being used. It can be concluded that this experiment has brought up new conclusions about the effect of different teaching methods and the degree of acquired classroom material on children.
