Abstract
With the arrival of numerous changes in different dimensions of human life, management and leadership are beginning to be an area of outstanding interest for scientists and theoreticians. Numerous definitions, theories, and models of leadership are being developed, which strive to contribute to the organization's success.
The aim of the work is to determine the dominant style of leadership and its advantages and disadvantages in the elementary schools in Zagreb. For this purpose, empirical research based on the Likert model of leadership styles was conducted by surveying the representative sample of school principals. According to the responses to six dimensions that determine Likert's leadership styles: leadership, motivation, communication, decision-making, goals, and control, dominant style is a participatory leadership style. Research of leadership dimensions has found that principals mostly apply participatory style, with the exception of motivational and supervisory dimension in which they use the counseling leadership style.
