Abstract
This paper is organised in two parts. The first part emphasises Croatian-French terminology concerning the term le Gothique de la Renaissance, or more precisely the architecture of XV and XVI century that shows characteristics of both Gothic and Renassaince styles. The aim is to show the methodology of terminology through theoretical and practical sections. The second part moves from the general problem to a more specific one with the example of Hvar. This phenomenon is explored through religious and residential architecture of XV and XVI centuries in the town of Hvar. By referring to the art history literature and the examples showing these qualities we present the problems pertaining to the main topic of this paper, the problem of simultaneity of gothic and renaissance architectural forms in Croatian art history and historiography.
